About Us

We research, collaborate and train scientists on the use of Drosophila melanogaster in biomedical research.

Drosophila Research and Training Centre, Nigeria, is a non-profit organization established in 2019 for the purpose of facilitating the use of Drosophila melanogaster (fruit or vinegar fly) as a cost-effective, alternative animal model for biomedical research and teaching in Sub-Saharan African countries.

Our Vision

To serve as a hub for the training of biomedical scientists in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa using Drosophila melanogaster as an alternative biomedical research model to rodents.

Our Mission

 
  • To promote the use of Drosophila melanogaster at different educational levels, including schools, universities, research institutes and clinics.
  • To ensure availability of different Drosophila stocks and conducive work space to scientists in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa.
